Spartans to Host Midnight Madness on October 25th

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate men’s and women’s basketball teams will host Midnight Madness Tuesday, Oct. 25, inside the Hodge Center as the squads officially kick off the 2011-12 basketball seasons.
Midnight Madness, which is free to everyone, will begin at approximately 9 p.m., following the conclusion of the Spartan volleyball match against Presbyterian College (7 p.m.)
The event will feature scrimmages by both the men’s and women’s teams, a dunk competition with celebrity judges and comments from both Head Women’s Coach Tammy George and Head Men’s Coach Eddie Payne.
The women’s team returns to the court following a 17-win campaign a season ago, including an appearance in the WBI Postseason Tournament. The Spartans will be led by Preseason All-Atlantic Sun Selection Tee’Ara Copney and senior Kendra Wallace.
The men’s squad, competing in its first year of full
eligibility, returns nine players from last season’s squad,
including reigning A-Sun Freshman of the Year, Torrey Craig.
Craig, a Preseason All-A-Sun selection, finished the 2010-11 season
ranked 10th or better in the conference in five
different statistical categories.
