MACON, Ga. – Freshman Dominique Nock (Griffin, Ga.) of the USC Upstate women's track & field team was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the league Wednesday afternoon.
After competing in two meets this season, Nock has collected two conference weekly honors as she was named the A-Sun Indoor Track Athlete of the Week Dec. 5. This most recent award comes after recording stand-out performances at ETSU's Niswonger Invitational Jan. 18-19.
On the second day of the Niswonger Invite, the rookie took first-place in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.77-meters (18-11.25), eclipsing her previous school record mark of 5.35-meters (17-06.75) set at Clemson's Orange & Purple Winter Classic Dec. 1. Nock's performance in the long jump tops the A-Sun this season.
She then teamed with junior Ashley Edmond (Hopkins, S.C.), freshman Ashleigh Torres (Roanoke, Va.) and freshman Semaj Tolliver (Ladson, S.C.) in the 4x400-meter relay to post a program-best time of 4:05.33. The previous Upstate record was 4:10.37 set at the Orange & Purple Winter Classic.
Nock also turned in strong performances for the Spartans on the opening day of the meet, recording a time of 26:26 in the 200-meter, just missing the Upstate record of 26:24. In the 60-meter dash, she finished alongside teammate and fellow freshman Brenicke Johnson (Loris, S.C.) as both crossed the line in 7.98 in the prelims.
Nock and the rest of the Spartans return to action Feb. 1, traveling to Winston-Salem, N.C., for the Hilton Garden Invitational. Follow the Spartans this season on your mobile device, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
