CLEMSON, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up competition at Clemson's Tiger Paw Invitational Saturday, breaking three school records and setting numerous personal-best marks.

Freshman Dominique Nock (Griffin, Ga.) set three school records for the Spartan women, including two individual events and one relay. She reset her school-best mark in the 60-meter dash prelims with a time of 7.75, tying for ninth-place in the event and just missing qualifying for the finals. Her previous Upstate record was 7.81, which she set at Clemson's Orange & Purple Winter Classic Dec. 1.

Upstate freshman Brenicke Johnson (Loris, S.C.) finished tied for 11th in the 60-meter dash with a personal-best time of 7.77. Her classmate Heaven Briggs (Columbus, Ga.) crossed the line in 7.96, tying her personal record that she set at the Orange & Purple Winter Classic earlier this season.

Nock smashed another Spartan record in the 200-meter, clocking in at 25.89 to finish 20th. The previous school record of 26.24 was set by Ashley Edmond (Hopkins, S.C.) at the Atlantic Sun Conference Indoor Championships last season. Briggs joined Nock in the 200-meter, turning another personal-best to come in at 26:05, which was also better than the previous school record mark.

Nock teamed with Briggs, Edmond and freshman Rebecca Elliott (Columbus, N.C.) teamed up in the women's 4x400-meter relay to set an Upstate record with a time of 4:05.20, claiming 12th-place. The previous school record was 4:05.33 recorded at ETSU's Niswonger Invitational earlier this season.

"I was really glad to see out sprinting crew make some progress today," said Upstate Head Coach Natalie Smith. "From the 60-meter up to the 400-meter, we had quite a few season-best times. I thought Dominique Nock had another great weekend, breaking school records in the 60-meter and 200-meter, then adding to that in the 4x400."

In the women's 400-meter, Edmond posted a season-best time of 1:01.49, while Elliott trailed her in the event with a personal-record time of 1:01.53. Sophomore Jasmine Polite (Goose Creek, S.C.) recorded a season-best time in the one mile run, clocking in at 5:28.20.

On the men's side, senior Kenny Sugishita (Arroyo Grande, Calif.) claimed third-place in the shot put with a toss of 14.86-meters (48-09.00). His classmate Gilbert Kemboi (Eldoret, Kenya) earned 12th-place in the one mile run, clocking in at 4:17.94. Upstate junior Joey Daversa (Chesapeake, Va.) registered a season-best time in the one mile, crossing the line in 4:32.23.

Sophomore Matt Johnson (Elgin, S.C.) recorded a time of 50.38 in the 400-meter to finish 18th. His brother Michael Johnson (Elgin, S.C.) followed with a time of 52.09. Upstate junior Jake McKown (Greer, S.C.) and freshman Tracy Fisher (Lawrenceville, Ga.) both turned in PRs in the 400-meter, crossing the line in 52.27 and 52.54, respectively.

In the men's 3,000-meter, junior Ross Oden (Salisbury, N.C.) recorded a time of 9:12.03, while sophomore Riley Doherty (Tallahassee, Fla.) trailed him, finishing in 9:28.93.

"Across the board we still have a lot of work to do and we'll use this next week to work on some areas as we finish up preparations for the A-Sun Championships," Smith said.

The Spartans return to action Feb. 22, traveling to Jonson City, Tenn., for the A-Sun Indoor Championships hosted by ETSU. Follow the Spartans this season on your mobile device, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
