SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Rookie closer Chad Sobotka (Sarasota, Fla.) has been named one of 45 players to the midseason watch list for the eighth-annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award.

Sobotka, in his first season with the Spartan program, owns a 3-0 record and 10 saves.  Sobotka's 10 saves place him in a three-way tie for the Atlantic Sun Conference lead and he is tied for sixth nationally.

His mark of 10 saves in 2012 is just two shy of tying the single-season school record (Bradley Blanks, 12, 2006), while he is halfway to the career record set by Chris Fowler.  Fowler recorded 20 career saves during his playing time in Spartanburg (1989-92).

Sobotka owns a 1.46 ERA in 24.2 innings of work (spanning 19 appearances) and opponents are batting .190 off of the righty.
