Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate assistant baseball coaches will offer the Back to School Upstate Baseball Games Camp Aug. 15-16 at Harley Park as a final send off as children head back to school in late-August.
The Back to School Upstate Baseball Games Camp is designed to help each camper learn and improve fundamentals with an emphasis on in-game awareness. The camp is unique because it will require each camper to play in 6-10 games during the two-day camp. The games will be supervised by a coach and the coach will use in-game situations as coaching opportunities to help instruct the campers on the game of baseball. The camp puts the campers in real-life game situations and instructs the campers on what to do when faced with game situations.
"This camp is different than most camps that offer just fundamentals of the game; hitting, throwing, catching, pitching, etc.," said Ethan Guevin, camp director and new volunteer coach at Upstate. "We will put the campers in real games and have them learn what to do, and what not to do, in game situations. The camp is designed to help the campers learn what and why they need to do things based on the situation in a game. With the campers playing games throughout the duration of camp, we feel it will be a fun and enjoyable atmosphere while they learn the mental aspect of the game."
The camp costs $100 per camper for the two-day camp Aug. 15-16. A special "Buddy-Up" promotion is also being offered for the camp. Campers who register at the same time as a friend/sibling will each receive a $10 discount to the camp, bringing the camp fee to $90 per camper. Campers must be registered before August 15 to receive the "Buddy-Up" discount. The camp will run from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday, August 15-16. Camp check-in and day-of registration begins at 8:30 a.m. on August 15 at Harley Park.
Guevin, who came to Upstate after serving as a graduate assistant at Cal the last two years, will be joined on the camp staff by Upstate assistant coaches Grant Rembert and Drew Saberhagen.
