Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate baseball team will hit the road this weekend, traveling to Jacksonville for the final road series of the 2017 season. The Spartans and Dolphins will play at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday before wrapping up the series at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Upstate is 22-26 following a 6-5 win over Wofford at Harley Park on Wednesday. Charlie Carpenter hit a walk-off grand slam with two outs to give Upstate the season series against their crosstown rivals. Upstate enters with a 5-10 record in the ASUN Conference after claiming their first series of the season last weekend against North Florida.
Conner Campbell was named the ASUN Pitcher of the Week on Monday and is scheduled to start Friday's game. The freshman right-hander went 1-0 with a save in two appearances. Campbell allowed one run on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts in a 2-1 complete game victory over North Florida on Friday. At Presbyterian College on May 3, he recorded the final two outs in a 6-5, 10-inning victory.
Jacksonville is 27-21 following a 21-2 loss at Florida State on Tuesday. The Dolphins are 11-4 in ASUN Conference play after dropping a series at home to Stetson last weekend.
Jacksonville leads the all-time series 15-9 but Upstate won the series last year at Harley Park. In the last series held at Sessions Stadium in 2015, the Dolphins completed a three-game sweep.
