Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate baseball team will conclude the 2017 season this weekend as it hosts the NJIT Highlanders at Harley Park in a three-game ASUN Conference series. The series begins on Thursday at 6 p.m., followed by a 6 p.m. Friday matchup and the series finale on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Friday is also Senior Day with six players being honored prior to the game.
Upstate is 22-30 overall and 5-13 in ASUN action following a 6-3 loss at South Carolina on Tuesday night. After allowing two runs in the first inning, the Spartans tied the game in the second before the Gamecocks answered with two runs in the home half of the inning. Upstate trailed 4-3 at the seventh inning stretch but a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh gave the Gamecocks a bit of breathing room.
NJIT is 8-38 overall and 1-17 in league play after last weekend's series against Kennesaw State. The Highlanders split a doubleheader on Friday, dropping the first game 13-1 before claiming a 5-2 win in the second game. Kennesaw State won Sunday's game 15-5.
Thursday's game is the fifth all-time meeting between the schools with the series tied at 2-2. NJIT won two games in Newark last season with the final game of the series cancelled due to weather.
