Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate Spartans will play their second consecutive ASUN Conference series on the road this weekend as the Spartans travel to Newark, N.J. to face NJIT at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium. The series begins on Friday evening at 6 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday and the series finale at Noon on Sunday.
USC Upstate is 16-19-1 overall after splitting a pair of midweek games with UNC Asheville and Gardner-Webb. The Spartans defeated UNC Asheville 10-3 on Tuesday and lost to the Runnin' Bulldogs 8-2 on Wednesday. USC Upstate is 1-5 in the ASUN Conference after losing three games last weekend at North Florida.
NJIT is 13-12 following an 11-3 home victory over Saint Peter's on Tuesday evening. The Highlanders are 2-4 in the ASUN Conference after losing their first two series at Lipscomb and at Florida Gulf Coast. Jesse Uttendorfer leads the team with a .326 batting average and has a team-best 30 hits. Michael Anastasia has a team-best 14 RBI.
USC Upstate leads the all-time series 4-3 after claiming two of three games at Harley Park in the final series of the 2017 season. The Spartans are 0-2 in Newark after dropping two games in 2016.
