Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate baseball team lost to Jacksonville 15-3 in the final game of an ASUN Conference series at Harley Park on Sunday.

Jacksonville improves to 34-17 overall and 11-6 in the ASUN while USC Upstate drops to 23-27-1 and 5-13.

Scoring Breakdown

  • Top 1st – Ruben Someillan reached on a leadoff single and advanced to second on a walk to Chris Lehane. Someillan and Lehane scored on a Connor Stephens single, with another run scoring on a bases-loaded walk.
  • Bottom 1stJake Bourke and Pat Raiff opened the inning with consecutive singles. Bourke advanced to third on a double play and scored on a Kyle Gensler single.
  • Top 3rd – Franco Guardascione drove in two runs with a single.
  • Bottom 3rdChris Rodriguez reached on a leadoff single and advanced to second on a free pass to Bourke. After a sacrifice bunt advanced the runners into scoring position, Rodriguez scored on a groundout.
  • Top 4th – The Dolphins added runs on a sacrifice fly and a Stephens single.
  • Bottom 4th – USC Upstate plated a run on a wild pitch.
  • Top 5th – Lehane drove in two runs with a single.
  • Top 7th – Duncan Hunter reached on a leadoff walk and scored on a groundout.
  • Top 8th – Cory Garrastazu hit a two-run home run. The Dolphins added three runs on two singles and a sacrifice fly.

Notables

  • Bourke and Raiff each went 2-for-4 with two singles.
  • Gensler went 1-for-4 with a single and RBI.
  • Russell Schwertfeger went 1-for-4 with a single and run scored.
  • Chris Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a single.
  • Someillan went 4-for-6 with three singles and a double to lead Jacksonville.
  • Stephens and Garrastazu each had three hits.
  • Tyler Santana (9-1) earned the win, allowing three runs on six hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings.
  • Kevin Hickey (2-4) took the loss, allowing five runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts in 3.0 innings.
