SPARTANBURG, S.C. – With Atlantic Sun Conference play set to begin in full force after the calendar flips to 2012, USC Upstate men's basketball forward Torrey Craig (Great Falls, S.C.) has been named to the CollegeHoops.net All-Conference Team (Pre-League Play Edition).
During the non-conference season, Craig averaged 17.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest. After opening the season with just four points at Arkansas (11/11), the sophomore began a double-figure scoring streak of 13 games with 16 points in the 91-66 victory over Piedmont College (11/14).
At the UTPA Tip-Off Classic, Craig led Upstate to a pair of victories (UTPA, 11/18; Texas State, 11/20). Craig connected on what proved to be the game-winner as he finished with 15 points in the win over the Broncs (11/18). In the 82-74 win over the Bobcats (11/20), Craig finished with his first double-double of the season (17 points, 11 rebounds).
On Dec. 1, Craig began a streak of four-straight 20+ point performances with 20 points in Upstate's 50-48 victory over Jacksonville State. Craig scored on a jumper in the paint with 18 seconds to play, lifting the Spartans to the two-point win.
Craig followed with a career-best 28 points at UNC Asheville (12/4), 21 points at Dayton (12/11) and 20 points at No. 2 Ohio State (12/14).
The Spartans opened league play with a pair of contests in Florida before the holiday break. Against Stetson (12/17), Craig tallied 13 points as Upstate rallied from a 12-point deficit in the first half en route to a 79-63 victory. His streak of 13 straight double-figure scoring games ended with a nine-point performance at Florida Gulf Coast (W, 80-75, 12/19).
The Spartans return to action on New Year's Eve with a high noon match-up at South Carolina. Saturday's contest from Columbia, S.C., will be broadcast on SportsSouth.
