SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After scoring a career-high 31 points against the University of Texas San Antonio, Torrey Craig has been named the College Sports Madness A-Sun Player of the Week as announced by the website Monday afternoon.
Reaching the 30-point plateau for the second time in his illustrious career, Craig used four free throws in the final 29 seconds Saturday afternoon to record a career-high 31 points and propel the Spartans to an 88-77 victory over UTSA.
The win over the Roadrunners avenged an eight-point loss at UTSA on Nov. 17, where Craig recorded 27 points. He has reached double figures in all nine games this season.
Craig's career-night was fueled by a 9-for-15 performance from the field and 11-for-14 stint from the charity stripe. He also added six rebounds, one steal and one assists in the win.
After UTSA scored the first six points of the game, Craig put the Spartans on his back and scored eight straight points, including a pair of three-pointers, to spark an 18-0 run and give Upstate a lead they would never relinquish.
Craig leads the Atlantic Sun Conference at 19.2 points per game and ranks 43rd overall in the country. Lehigh's C.J. McCollum currently leads the nation at 24.9 points per game.
The Spartans are enjoying one of their longest breaks of the season, returning to action next Monday, Dec. 17 on the road at Baylor University. Tip-off in the Ferrell Center is slated for 8 p.m. EST and will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest.
