USC Upstate, Kennesaw State Set to Tangle on Saturday Afternoon

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's basketball team will travel to Kennesaw, Ga. on Saturday afternoon to face the Kennesaw State Owls at 4:30 p.m. in an ASUN contest from the KSU Convocation Center.

USC Upstate and Kennesaw State are facing each other for the second straight weekend after the Owls won the first meeting, 81-80, last Saturday in Spartanburg. During the first game, Ramel Thompkins scored a team-high 21 points while Deion Holmes added 19 and Malik Moore 16. Avery Diggs led the team defensively with six rebounds while Mike Cunningham dished out five assists.

The Spartans began their week on Monday evening dropping a 110-106 double-overtime decision to Lipscomb at Eddie and Ann Payne Arena in the G.B. Hodge Center. Deion Holmes became the 23rd player in school history, and second this season, to score 1,000 career points after finishing with a career-best 39. His 39 points are tied with Ty Greene for third-most in a game in school history. Holmes also registered his first career double-double with a career-high 12 rebounds while Malik Moore added his fifth career double-double on 26 points and 14 rebounds.

Kennesaw State is 6-17 this season and 2-6 in conference play. The Owls are led offensively by James Scott with 16.0 points per game while Anthony Wilson contributes a team-leading 5.3 rebounds per contest. Kennesaw State is under the direction of third-year head coach Al Skinner.

The teams are meeting for the 39th time in program history with USC Upstate leading the all-time series 23-15.
