Gallman Claims Second Professional Victory
Spartanburg, S.C. – Former USC Upstate golfer and Gaffney, S.C., native Josh Gallman shot a 7-under-par 65 Monday afternoon to win the Woodfin Ridge event on the Carolina Mountain Tour at Woodfin Ridge Golf Club in nearby Inman.
Gallman won his second tournament since turning pro in May. He claimed the tournament championship in his professional debut in the River Falls event also on the Carolina Mountain Tour. He has finished seventh and eighth in two events on the Hooters Carolina Summer Series Tour. In four professional events, he has two wins and four top 10 finishes.
The Carolina Mountain Tour is a series of one-day tournaments typically played on Mondays in an effort to draw club pros to events. Gallman began his round Monday by taking bogey on the first hole. He managed to get even through the sixth hole and played his final 12 holes 7-under-par to shoot 65 and win the tournament by three strokes over Blake Palmer. Gallman and Palmer were the only two players to shoot in the 60's on the day.
While Gallman took top honors, he was not the only golfer connected with the Upstate golf program to play in the tournament. Tyler Comer, a red-shirt sophomore playing as an amateur in the tournament, shot a 71 to finish fifth. Former Spartan Baxter Culler shot a 73 and finished tied for sixth, while former Upstate golfer Michael Lawrence shot a 77 and finished 12th.
