Carter Posts First Career Top-Five Finish at Wolfpack Fall Intercollegiate

Raleigh, N.C. – Matt Carter recorded the first top-five performance of his career on Tuesday afternoon to lead the USC Upstate men's golf team on the final day of the Wolfpack Fall Intercollegiate from the par 71, 7358-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course.

Carter posted a final round 73 on Tuesday and finished the two-day tournament with a 3-under score of 210 (68-69-73), marking the best finish turned in this season by an Upstate men's golfer of fourth place. The sophomore teed off on the 10th hole Tuesday morning and was 1-over at the turn after a birdie on the par 3 17th hole. Carter had bogeys on back-to-back holes to begin the back-nine, but finished strong with a pair of birdies over his final four holes on 6 and 7.

The Easley, S.C. native turned in a solid performance over the course of two days, finishing in the top 10 in several individual categories. Carter finished the tournament second in par 3 scoring at 3-under with a 2.80 stroke average, while also tying for seventh in par 4 scoring at even-par and a 4.00 stroke average. He had one of two eagles for the Spartans along with Jordan Warnock. Carter had 12 birdies and 33 pars over the course of 54 holes.

As a team, Upstate posted a 17th place performance after shooting a final round 305. The Spartans concluded tournament play with a combined score of 899 (297-297-305).

East Carolina won the Wolfpack Fall Intercollegiate by three strokes over Kennesaw State with a three-round score of 837. On the individual leaderboard, Timothy Conover of East Carolina finished in first place after shooting a 12-under 201.

Upstate also counted scores of 74 from Warnock, 77 from Taylor White, 81 from Trey Taylor and 82 from Andrew Purcell. White was the second highest finisher for the Spartans as he tied for 49th place with a 221 (68-76-77) followed by Warnock who tied for 76th at 230 (80-76-74). Purcell finished the tournament tied for 84th position with a 239 (81-76-82) and Taylor was 89th at 243 (81-81-81).

Upstate returns to the course Oct. 22-23 at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Camden, S.C.
