Upstate Continues Fall Season this Weekend at Camden Collegiate Invitational

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's golf team will make a return trip to Camden, S.C. this weekend as the Spartans are set to compete in the 14-team Camden Collegiate Invitational hosted by South Carolina at the par 70, 6350-yard Camden Country Club.

Upstate is participating in its third tournament of the fall season and are returning to the course for the first time since Oct. 3-4 at the Wolfpack Fall Intercollegiate. The Spartans finished 17th at the two-day tournament led by Matt Carter who recorded the first top-five performance of his career. Carter led Upstate with a 3-under score of 210 and finished in fourth place, while setting a new career-low round of 68 on day one. Upstate had a team score of 899 (297-297-305) at the Wolfpack Fall Intercollegiate.

Carter currently sits just outside the top 150 of the Golfstat rankings in 153rd place midway through the fall campaign. The sophomore leads the Spartans through two events this season with an even-par score of 71.80, and has one top-5 and one top-10 performance on his resume.

Upstate is one of 14 teams competing in the two-day tournament along with High Point, Xavier, Presbyterian College, Wofford, James Madison, Gardner-Webb, Charleston Southern, Francis Marion, South Carolina, Dartmouth, USC-Aiken, Harvard and Furman.

The Spartans are sending out a five-player lineup consisting of Carter, Taylor White, Tom Schofield, Andrew Purcell and Jordan Warnock.

The Camden Collegiate Invitational is a 54-hole tournament played over the course of two days. Saturday will feature 36 holes of competition with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. Teams will play 18 holes on Sunday with an 8:00 a.m. start.

The Spartans close out their fall schedule Oct. 30-Nov. 1 at the East Bay Classic hosted by Charleston Southern at Turtle Point Golf Club in Kiawah Island, S.C.
