Warnock’s Career-Low Round Highlights Day One for Upstate at Camden Collegiate Invitational

Camden, S.C. – Jordan Warnock carded a career-low round, while Taylor White currently sits in a tie for 16th place, as the USC Upstate men's golf team completed day one action at the Camden Collegiate Invitational on Saturday from the par 70, 6350-yard Camden Country Club.

Upstate ended the first two rounds in a tie for sixth place with Furman at 595 (300-295) heading into the final day on Sunday. The 295 turned in during the second round is the lowest this season for the Spartans by one stroke after shooting a 296 at the season-opening Bridgestone Match Play. Upstate is tied for third among the tournament field with 22 birdies.

"Overall, today was a good day and a significant improvement over our last tournament," said head coach Todd Lawton. "Everyone contributed and I am particularly proud of the way Taylor stayed consistent and Matt persevered after getting some muscle spasms in his back midway through the second round."

White leads the Spartans in the individual standings as the senior is tied for 16th place at 6-over 146. White posted four birdies during his opening two rounds and added 22 pars for scores of 72 and 74 on Saturday. The first round 72 ties his second-lowest round of the season which also came at the Bridgestone Match Play.

Warnock opened play at the Camden Collegiate Invitational with a first round 78 before coming back with ten pars and three birdies in his second round for a 71, marking the lowest score of the day for Upstate. The freshman is tied for 26th position with a combined score of 149 (78-71).

"It was exciting to watch Jordan post his low today in the second round," Lawton said. "He is a very talented young player and I know he will use this to gain confidence in future rounds. It is very important for his development and ours as a team."

Matt Carter is the second-highest Spartan in the individual standings as the sophomore, ranked 153rd in the latest Golfstat ranking, sits one stroke back of White in a tie for 21st at 147 (73-74). Carter turned in a solid day ranking in the top-10 among the tournament field as he is tied for third in par 3 scoring at 1-under par and tied for fifth with seven birdies.

Upstate also counted scores of 155 (79-76) from Tom Schofield and 157 (77-80) by Andrew Purcell. Schofield had his lowest round of the season thus far with a second round 76 and sits tied for 53rd place, while Purcell is tied for 65th with two other players.
