Upstate Tees off Spring Schedule at Sea Best Invitational

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's golf team returns to the course this week as it is set to compete in the 9th Annual Sea Best Invitational hosted by Jacksonville at the par 71, 6,977 yard Dye's Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass.

The Spartans will be sending out a five-player lineup this week consisting of Taylor White, Matt Carter, Jordan Warnock, Sean Stanistreet and Sam Merrell. Merrell is playing in his first collegiate event at Upstate.

The Spartans begin play at the Sea Best at 8 a.m. on Monday with rounds one and two, and the final 18 holes will also take place at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

Upstate is one of 15 teams competing in the two-day tournament along with Jacksonville, Arkansas, Campbell, Charleston Southern, East Carolina, Florida, Florida State, Liberty, Lipscomb, North Carolina, North Florida, SMU, Tennessee and Winthrop.

The Spartans are back in action for the first time since Oct. 30-Nov. 1 when they finished in 22nd place at the East Bay Classic in Kiawah Island, S.C. Warnock turned in the top individual performance finishing tied for 69th place followed by White who placed 81st. Andrew Purcell (T-99th) and Stanistreet (115th) rounded out the event for Upstate.

At last year's Sea Best Invitational, the Spartans placed 15th as White tied for 79th place while Carter was tied for 81st.

Upstate is off until Mar. 6-7 when it heads to Aiken, S.C. for the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate from Palmetto Golf Club.
