Warnock Leads Upstate at Southern Intercollegiate Championships with Level Par Performance

Athens, Ga. – Jordan Warnock carded a combined score of 144, highlighted by a second round 70, to lead the USC Upstate men's golf team to an 11th place finish at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships on Monday at the par 72, 6917-yard Athens Country Club.

Upstate concluded the 36-hole tournament with a total score of 614 (308-306) led by a final round 306 on Monday. The Spartans finished one stroke ahead of ASUN member Stetson.

Warnock led Upstate individually by finishing tied for 18th place, his second top-20 performance this season, with an even-par 144 (74-70). Taylor White turned in a tied for 44th place performance at 150 (74-76) followed by Hunter Fry who placed 79th with a 161 (80-81). Matt Carter was one stroke back of Fry in a tie for 80th position with a combined score of 162 (83-79) and Andrew Purcell rounded out the day for the Spartans tied for 84th place at 165 (80-85).

Lipscomb won the Southern Intercollegiate Championships by three strokes over Florida State with a 12-under par 564. Individually, Kennesaw State's Jake Fendt took home individual medalist honors at 7-under 137 and won by one stroke over Greyson Sigg of Georgia.

Six of the 15 teams that competed in the Southern Intercollegiate Championships are ranked in the latest Golfstat rankings in Oklahoma (No. 13), Georgia (No. 19), Arkansas (No. 24), Florida State (No. 30), Lipscomb (No. 43) and Kennesaw State (No. 44).

Upstate makes the short trip to Greenville on Mar. 24-26 for the Furman Intercollegiate at the Furman Golf Course.

  • The second round 70 carded by Warnock on Monday is a new career-low score after previously posting a 71 during the fall season at the Camden Collegiate Invitational.
  • Warnock finished the tournament tied for fifth with 24 pars, and tied for eighth in par 4 scoring along with White at even-par and a 4.00 stroke average.
  • The Spartans compiled 90 pars and 21 birdies in the two rounds as White led the way with seven birdies. Warnock added six birdies, Fry five, Purcell two and Carter one.
  • Upstate had a 3.48 stroke average in par 3 scoring, 4.37 stroke average on the par 4's and tallied a 5.15 stroke average on par 5 holes.
