Spartanburg, S.C. – Four Spartans each recorded a goal on Thursday evening as the USC Upstate men's soccer team opened its preseason with a 4-1 victory over the Bob Jones Bruins in an exhibition match at County University Soccer Stadium.
Upstate finished the game holding a 19-6 advantage in shots including a 12-4 mark in attempts on net. Each team took four corner kicks in the contest.
Upstate scored its opening three goals within a 16-minute span to lead Bob Jones 3-0. JR Cozine began the scoring in the fifth minute followed by Michelangelo Dovidio in the 11th minute. Cam Philpot made it a 3-0 game in the 16th minute.
Hamilton Gmah ended the Spartan scoring in the 43rd minute to make the score 4-0.
Jared Simmons got the Bruins on the scoreboard in the 64th minute, putting the score at 4-1.
Dovidio led Upstate offensively with three shots, while Gmah and Sebastian Quinteros added two attempts on net apiece. Santiago Restrepo and Brady Moody each grabbed one save in goal.
Quinteros, Philpot and Calon Minors all dished out one assist in the victory.
The Spartans close out their preseason on Saturday evening at 8 p.m. against Brevard in Spartanburg.
