Rodriguez Nets A-Sun Tennis Player of the Week Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After a perfect 3-0 week at singles position number one and a 2-1 mark in doubles action, Edgar Rodriguez (Bogota, Columbia) was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office in Macon, Ga., announced today.

The junior Spartan capped his undefeated singles play with a strong come from behind effort against South Carolina's Ivan Machado on Sunday afternoon.  Machado claimed the first set by shutting out Rodriguez, 6-0.  Rodriguez refused to go down without a fight and rallied to win the match as he claimed sets two and three (6-4, 6-4).

In the Spartans doubleheader against Anderson and Presbyterian College, Rodriguez went 2-0 in both singles and doubles play as the Spartans swept the Wednesday twinbill.

Rodriguez downed Stan Atema (Anderson) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.  In his doubles match against the Trojans, he teamed with Matias Di Pasquale and the Spartan pair downed the team of Krystof Gulbinovic and Ilya Zakharov, 8-5.

Against Presbyterian, Rodriguez again won at singles position number one and picked up another doubles win.  He defeated Andrew Brigham in straight sets, 6-1,6-3, and teamed with Gonzalo Blanco to claim a 8-3 victory over Grayson Mills and Gonzalo Asis.
