Blanco Earns A-Sun All-Tournament Honors
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After helping the USC Upstate men's tennis team pick up its first-ever win in the Atlantic Sun Tournament, senior Ramiro Blanco earned a spot on the All-Tournament team, the league office in Macon, Ga., announced Sunday.
Blanco kick started the Spartans comeback against Lipscomb Friday as he evened the match at one-all with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at singles No. 1. Upstate went on to claim a 4-2 victory over the Bison in the first round.
Blanco teamed with Matthias Kidler and the duo picked up a pair of doubles (No. 1) victories before the Spartans had their tournament run ended by ETSU in the semifinals. The 2012 championship event was the first for Upstate in their first season of post-season eligibility after a five-year transition from Division II to Division I.
