Spartan Duo Advances to Championship Round at UT Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team continued play on day two of the Tennessee Fall Invitational Saturday with a doubles tandem advancing to Sunday's championship round.

The pairing of Gonzalo Blanco and Yvon Haessig continued to shine in the "Orange" doubles draw as they cruised past Penn State's Guanhua Chen and Chris Young 8-4 to advance to the championship round.

The match for the title will take place against Winthrop's Steven Patrick and Yuta Hirokawa Sunday morning at 9 a.m. The Sunday morning match will be the final match for the Spartans in the UT Fall Invite after falling in the remaining matches on Saturday.

Viktor Selander and Jacob Darling dropped their doubles semifinal match with Western Michigan's Stephen Payne and Jimmy Beckwith, falling 8-4.

In singles action, Selander recorded the lone victory of the day for Upstate in the morning session, knocking off Penn State's Chris Young 6-1, 6-1, but later fell to Tennessee's Edward Jones 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in the semifinal round.
