Spartans Cap Fall Season at Citadel Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. – With the final day of the Citadel Fall Invitational delayed due to inclement weather, the USC Upstate men's tennis team took full advantage on Sunday, capturing victories in 13 of its 17 matches to put a lid on the fall season.
The Spartans were a perfect once again in doubles action and ended the two-day event at 9-0 in their doubles matches.
Matthias Kidler and Viktor Selander teamed up and knocked off The Citadel's Orces/Dedding 8-4, while Yvon Haessig and Gonzalo Blanco cruised by The Citadel duo of Howle/Bleach 8-1. Jamie Yates and Jacob Darling sealed the perfect doubles weekend when they took down Pride/Sperr of the Citadel in 8-1 fashion.
The Spartans were also on point in singles play against the Bulldogs, winning four matches, all in straight sets to continue the strong play sunday. Blanco relinquished just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of The Citadel's Bleach, while Selander toppled Pride 6-1, 6-4. Yates and Ramon Simonetti were also victors in straight sets.
In matches against Georgia Southern the Spartans was just as impressive, picking up five more wins with all of them coming in straight set fashion once again.
Kidler dropped just four games in defeat of GSU's Verdam, while Yates, picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Hoffman of Georgia Southern.
With six fall tournaments in the books, the Spartans will now turn their attention to the 2013 spring season. Head coach Oliver Trittenwein will release the complete spring schedule in the coming weeks that will feature a full Atlantic Sun Conference slate.
