SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Following three matches in as many days last weekend, the USC Upstate men's tennis team returns home Saturday afternoon to take on Gardner-Webb at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex at 1 p.m. in non-conference action.

Story Lines

The Spartans are coming off three matches on the West Coast last weekend, falling to Oregon and Portland and picking up a 4-3 victory over Eastern Washington.

Viktor Selander has been on his game in singles play, posting a 3-1 record this season, all coming at No. 4 singles. Jamie Yates has been equally impressive with a 3-1 mark at No. 5 singles.

Upstate is winless on the year at No. 1 doubles, but a 3-1 record at No. 2 doubles and a 2-2 mark at the No. 3 slot has given the Spartans the doubles point in two of the four matches this season. Upstate has gone on to win both those matches by a 4-3 margin.

Gardner-Webb has been productive in the bottom half of its singles rotation thus far, which includes the season-opening match at 18th ranked North Carolina as well as tournament play versus Army, Marist, and UNC Greensboro.

Last Time Out: The USC Upstate men's tennis team used a late rally Sunday afternoon at the University of Portland to create a 3-3 tie in singles play, but the Pilots took the final and decisive match to pick up the 4-3 victory at the Lewis & Clark Courts in non-conference action.

Next Time Out: After taking on the Bulldogs Saturday, Upstate will have six days off before traveling to Coastal Carolina and UNC Wilmington next Friday and Saturday.
