SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team jumped into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national polls Wednesday afternoon as Gonzalo Blanco and Yvon Haessig earned a doubles ranking and Matthias Kidler was awarded a singles ranking.
Joining the national rankings as the No. 77 doubles team in the country, Blanco and Haessig are 5-4 on the year, coming off an upset of the 26th-ranked pair from Elon of Cameron Silverman and Stefan Fortmann to lead the Spartans to a 4-3 victory over the weekend.
Kidler has had an upset mind of his own lately, knocking off Elon's No. 26 ranked Silverman 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 last weekend to improve to 7-4 on the season and earn a No. 109 national ranking. All seven of his victories have come at the top singles spot for the Spartans.
The Spartans will put their new national on the line this afternoon, welcoming Texas-Pan American to town for the final non-conference match of the year. First serve at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex is slated for 2 p.m. Upstate is looking to win back-to-back matches for the first time this season.
