Spartans Ground Owls, Dominating 6-1
KENNESAW, Ga. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team extended its Atlantic Sun Conference winning streak to three matches, downing Kennesaw State 6-1 on the road Friday at the Fair Oaks Tennis Center.
The Spartans (9-10, 3-4 A-Sun) picked up the doubles point for the third straight match, earning wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Upstate's No. 1 pairing of Matthias Kidler and Ramon Simonetti defeated KSU's (5-13, 2-5 A-Sun) Tobi Menhofer and Louis Theodor 8-3, while Yvon Haessig and Gonzalo Blanco beat Gianni Kubin and Gokalp Ozdemir 8-1 at No. 2 doubles for the Spartans.
In singles action, Upstate made quick work of the Owls, claiming victories throughout the top five spots in the lineup. Kidler earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Menhofer at No. 1 singles, while Simonetti swept Kubin 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 2 slot. Haessig kept things rolling for the Spartans at No. 3 singles, defeating Maksim Yorsh in a pair of 6-2 sets.
Viktor Selander earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Theodor at No. 4 singles, while Blanco beat Ozdemir 6-2, 7-5 at the No. 5 spot. KSU picked up a win at No. 6 singles as Alexander Pena claimed the first set 7-5 before retiring Upstate's Jamie Yates to the Spartans the 6-1 overall victory.
