USC Upstate Falls Twice to Liberty, UNC Wilmington

Wilmington, N.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team continued its four-match road trip on Saturday dropping a pair of matches to the Liberty Flames and UNC Wilmington Seahawks from the UNCW Courts.

USC Upstate dropped a 4-0 neutral site decision to Liberty before falling to UNC Wilmington 6-1.

The Spartans fall to 1-5 on the season while Liberty improves to 3-4 and UNC Wilmington 4-1.

MATCH ONE – USC UPSTATE 0, LIBERTY 4
USC Upstate's opening match of the day versus the Flames began with singles matches as the doubles were not contested.

Liberty won four matches to secure the victory with the other two going unfinished. The Spartans were in the third set of both matches with Ignacio Garrido at No. 4 and Fernando Bernardes at No. 5.

MATCH TWO – USC UPSTATE 1, UNC WILMINGTON 6
The Seahawks began the match winning the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead after picking up victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Bernardes and Garrido were leading their No. 1 match 5-4 against Ignasi de Rueda and Raphael Calzi but went unfinished.

UNC Wilmington would go on to win five singles matches to record the 6-1 triumph.

USC Upstate collected one singles victory after Luka Eble, playing at No. 5, defeated Daniel Groom in three sets 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7). The Spartans also sent two matches into the third set with Felix Ewers at No. 1 and Francisco Neto at No. 2.

USC Upstate closes out its road trip on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m. against Wofford.
