USC Upstate Edged in Road Finale at Lipscomb

Nashville, Tenn. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team dropped its final road match of the season on Thursday morning, falling 4-3 in conference play to the Lipscomb Bisons at Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center.

USC Upstate falls to 5-18 overall and 0-5 in the conference while Lipscomb improves to 7-11 on the season and 2-3 in league play.

The Bisons jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over the Spartans winning the doubles point following victories at No. 1 and No. 2. The No. 3 match between Luka Eble/Felix Ewers and Daniel Cardenas/Pedro Uribe went unfinished.

The teams split the six singles matches as USC Upstate earned wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4. Lipscomb picked up victories at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 to record the 4-3 victory.

Ewers, Eble and Fernando Bernardes all won their respective singles matches in straight sets with Ewers at No. 1, Bernardes at No. 3 and Eble at No. 4. Ewers defeated Alejandro Manzanres 6-3, 6-4 while Bernardes topped Jorge Ortegon 6-4, 6-3. Eble collected a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Cardenas.

Lucas Percy, playing at No. 6 singles, sent his match into the third set against Francesco Tacconi but would fall 7-5, 6-7, 2-6.

The Spartans close out their regular season on Saturday evening hosting Kennesaw State at 6 p.m. on Senior Night.
