Rock Hill, S.C. - USC Upstate shot a 346 in the final round of the Winthrop University Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon at the Rock Hill Country Club and finished ninth, while Jennifer Judge claimed a top 15 finish.
Judge had another solid tournament to finish as the low Spartan. She has finished as the low Spartan in every tournament she has played this season. She finished the tournament with an 81 in the third round Tuesday and totaled 240. She recorded a tie for 11th.
Upstate, which had a cushion of 20 strokes over Wisconsin-Green Bay in 10th place, extended it by five strokes on Tuesday and was never threatened for its spot. However, the Spartans could get no closer to eighth place and stayed in the same position it was in when the round began.
Xavier recorded a 308 in the final round to vault into a tie for the tournament lead with Belmont Abbey. The Musketeers won the team championship in a playoff. Xavier finished the tournament with a 949 total. Belmont Abbey also totaled 949 and was followed by Winthrop (952), Princeton (961), Gardner-Webb (964), Presbyterian College (983), High Point (1003), Marshall (1020), Upstate (1040), Wisconsin-Green Bay (1065), St. Francis (Pa.) (1079) and Findlay (1110).
Johanna Ebenhag carded an 85 and totaled 265 for the tournament to finish as the second-lowest Spartan in the tournament. Natalie Buch was the third-best Upstate player in the tournament, shooting 91 on Tuesday. Cheryl Lo added a 92. Marissa Clontz lowered her scores in each round and totaled an 89 on Tuesday to post the third-lowest Upstate score on the day.
Winthrop's Rachel Smith shot a 73 on Tuesday to claim the individual championship. She totaled 228 for the tournament to win by five strokes over Princeton's Rachel Blum, who competed in the tournament as an individual.
