Upstate Headed to the Tee at the Low Country Invitational
Spartanburg, S.C. - Coming off a third-place finish at the Monterey Bay Invitational which concluded on Tuesday, the USC Upstate women's golf team will be back in action Sunday and Monday in the Low Country Invitational hosted by Wofford and Western Carolina on Hilton Head Island, S.C.
The Low Country Invitational is being played on the Moss Creek Plantation course. The 36-hole event is being played with 18 holes on Sunday and 18 on Monday. Moss Creek plays at 5,853 yards and is a par-72 layout.
Upstate is one of 16 teams in the tournament. Joining the Spartans and hosts Wofford and Western Carolina is Akron, Appalachian State, Brown, The Citadel, DePauw, Dartmouth, Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian, Princeton, Radford, S.C. State, Ursuline and Western Kentucky.
Upstate is making its fourth appearance in the Low Country Invitational. The Spartans made their first appearance in 2009 with its top performance, a ninth-place finish. Upstate also competed in 2011 and 2012, making this year the third consecutive year for the Spartans in the tournament.
Upstate head coach Todd Lawton will send the lineup of Amanda Hall, Brittany Lowe, Rachel Reiling, Taylor Barnes and Malika Allie into action this week. The lineup turned in the third-place effort at the Monterey Bay Invitational earlier this week. Barnes, Lowe and Reiling have played in all seven tournaments so far this season, while Hall has played in six events. Allie is making her fourth tournament appearance. Upstate is averaging shooting 322.1 per round for the season. Taylor Barnes and Amanda Hall are tied for the team lead with a 79.6 stroke average. Hall leads the Spartans with two Top 5 finishes, while Barnes has two Top 10 efforts, including a Top 5 finish, this season.
