Upstate Ready for Challenge at This Week’s ASUN Golf Championships

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's and women's golf teams are set to battle for the ASUN Conference championship and the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals when it tees off Sunday in the first of three rounds of the ASUN Golf Championships played on the Legends Course at the Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Ga.

The men's course will play as a par 72 at 7,032 yards and the women at par 73 and 5,839 yards.

Sunday's action begins at 8 a.m. with the men teeing off and the women will follow at 8:40 a.m. The 54-hole championship will conclude on Monday, April 17. Due to weather in the Braselton area on Tuesday, the tournament has been adjusted to Sunday and Monday. A total of 36 holes will be played on Sunday and 18 on Monday.

Head coach Todd Lawton will send out a five-player lineup for the men consisting of Matt Carter, Jordan Warnock, Taylor White, Sun Paripunna and Sean Stanistreet.

On the women's side, the five-player lineup is made up of Pan Paksanont, Anna Chanthaphaeng, Payton Culler, Sidney Dermody and Caroline Heustess.

The Upstate men are coming off a 13th place finish at the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate on April 11 in Nashville, Tenn. The Spartans wrapped up the event with a three-round 943 (320-312-311). The women's team is competing for the first time since April 3 when it finished 11th at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate. The team broke a six-year old school record in the final round with a 295 and finished at 608 (313-295) for the tournament.

Carter leads the men's team in scoring this season with a 74.63 stroke average, and has one top-5 and one top-10 performance. White is just behind Carter in stroke average at 74.67 while Warnock adds one top-10 finish.

Paksanont currently has a team-best 76.09 stroke average for the women and carded four top-10 finishes. Chanthaphaeng contributed one finish of tenth or better and is second in scoring at 78.05.
