SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Ashlee Barrow's second season in Spartanburg has yet to officially begin, but the honors continue to roll in for the Fishkill, N.Y., native. Barrow was ranked 16th in the list of 20 players to watch in the Atlantic Sun Conference during the 2010 season.
"She certainly deserves this honor," said head coach Renee Lopez. "She has an amazing work ethic on the field and in the classroom. Most importantly, she has a magnetic personality to be a leader."
During the preseason, Barrow has tallied a goal and an assist in each exhibition match. During the 2009 season, she became the first freshman since Catherine Nolff to start every game in a season. Barrow scored her first collegiate goal against Gardner-Webb.
She became the first Spartan player to earn all-conference honors since the move to Division I, as she earned A-Sun All-Freshman Team accolades. The communications major also earned A-Sun All-Academic honors for her hard work in the classroom.
Upstate will kick-off the 2010 regular season on Friday afternoon when they host Charleston Southern at 4:00 p.m.
