SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Not only did the USC Upstate women's soccer team post a 2-0-1 record at the "Kickin' It for Cancer" event held on April 14, 2012 at the County University Soccer Stadium. The club also received $1,240.00 in donations that went directly to the Gibbs Cancer Center.
All donations collected at the event went directly to help support the Gibbs Cancer Center in its efforts to battle cancer, keeping important funds right here in the Spartanburg community.
The Spartans opened play with a 1-0 victory over Spartanburg Methodist College as Katrina Savoy (Waldorf, Md.) registered the lone goal of the match.
In their second match of the day, the Spartans battled to a scoreless draw against Southern Wesleyan. In the finale, Michelle Calmeyn (Elk Grove, Ill.) scored the match's only goal to lift Upstate to a 1-0 victory over Louisburg College.
