Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's soccer team begins an eight-match roadtrip on Sunday as the Spartans travel to Winthrop for a 6 p.m. contest at Eagle Field.
Upstate is 2-3-0 following a 3-2 loss to Wofford on Friday. Upstate led 2-0 at halftime thanks to goals by Kate Winegarner and Abbie Ellis. Wofford tied the game with two goals in the span of 1 minute, 9 seconds before Catie Slater's game-winning goal with under three minutes remaining.
Winthrop is 2-2-1 following a 1-0 overtime victory at South Carolina State on Thursday evening. Allie Thomas leads Winthrop with two goals on the year. Both the Eagles and Spartans earned wins over Alabama A&M this season.
Sunday's match is the fourth all-time meeting between the schools. Winthrop has won the first three matchups including a 1-0 win at County University Soccer Stadium on Aug. 23, 2016.
