Spartanburg, S.C. - Coming off its second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and a Division I era school record 46 wins, the USC Upstate softball team has begun its search to fill its vacancy for its pitching coach.
Upstate (46-9, 22-2 A-Sun) won the 2014 A-Sun regular season championship and became the first A-Sun school in the hsitory of the conference to earn at at-large berth to the NCAA Softball Tournament. The Spartans played in the Tuscaloosa Regional for the second straight year at national No. 2 seed Alabama.
Upstate had six A-Sun All-Conference selections in 2014, five first team honorees including the A-Sun Pitcher of the Year Anna Miller and A-Sun Freshman of the Year and pitcher Lexi Shubert. Miller was named a 1st Team Academic All-American and outfielder Shellie Robinson was named a 3rd Team All-American.
Upstate's pitching staff was strong throughout the year and was ranked No. 1 in the nation in ERA for two consecutive weeks at the end of the season before finishing fifth with a 1.55 ERA. The unit helped Upstate earn Top 25 rankings in both major national polls (USAToday/NFCA and ESPN.com/USA Softball) in seven weeks throughout the season.
