Upstate Returns Home on Friday to Host Ohio

Spartanburg, S.C. – After spending the last six games on the road, the USC Upstate softball team returns to Cyrill Stadium on Friday afternoon when it hosts the Ohio Bobcats in non-conference play at 4 p.m.

Upstate closed out its six-game road trip on Wednesday evening falling 7-5 at South Carolina. Abbie Millete led the Spartans offensively with a season-high three hits, which tied her career-high, while Alicia Dorgan drove in a career-best three RBI following her second home run of the season. Karla Beasley added two hits, including one double, and one RBI in four plate appearances. Upstate combined for five strikeouts in the game as Lexi Shubert collected three and Holly McKinnon two.

The Spartans currently have the best pitching staff in the ASUN this season boasting a 1.19 team earned run average and 232 strikeouts for a conference-leading 8.64 strikeouts per seven innings. Individually, McKinnon ranks first with a 0.85 ERA and is tied for first with 12 victories, while Shubert is first in the league with three saves. Offensively, Beasley leads Upstate with a team-best .360 average, six home runs and 25 RBI.

Ohio currently sits at 14-6 on the season after defeating Wright State 14-6 in six innings on March 12 during the Louisville Softball Classic. The Bobcats are led offensively by Alex Day with a .357 average, while Morgan Geno has three home runs and 17 RBI. On the mound, Savannah Jo Dorsey has compiled an 8-3 record and 0.78 ERA. Ohio is under the direction of ninth-year head coach Jodi Hermanek.

The Spartans and Bobcats are meeting for the first time since the 2012 season when Upstate earned a 6-0 victory during the Upstate Classic.
