COLUMBIA, S.C. - Junior Anna Novo (Caracas, Venezuela/El Angel) and freshman Emilia Milovanvoic (Paris, France/CNED) fell in the championship match of the B-1 doubles flight at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships at the University of South Carolina, falling 8-5 to South Carolina's Megan McGavock and Miljana Jocic on Sunday afternoon.
In singles play, the Spartans won two of their four consolation singles matches. Novo earned the win over Armstrong Atlantic State's Johanna Dahlback, taking a 2-1 lead in the first set before Dahlback was forced to retire due to injury.
Milovanovic also posted a win over Columbus State's Zineh Hilali, as Hilali retired due to injury after Milovanovic had built up a 6-3, 2-1 lead.
Senior Diana Martinez (Medellin, Colombia/Nuestra Senora del Rosario) and junior Vivian Neuenschwander (Arequipa, Peru/Max-Uhle) fell in the consolation finals in the B-2 doubles bracket, 8-6, to West Virginia's Ashley Pillsbury and Monique Burton.
The Southern Intercollegiates ended the first Division I fall season in school history. The Spartans will open up the traditional spring dual meet season on Jan. 30 at Davidson at 1:30 p.m.
