Women’s Tennis Rallies Past Florida Gulf Coast

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's team rallied from a 3-2 deficit to pick up a 4-3 victory over visiting Florida Gulf Coast Friday at the Upstate Tennis Complex.

FGCU earned the doubles point after sweeping all three matches.

Julie Bell (singles No. 3) and Talia Rojas (No. 2) picked up straight set victories, but the Spartans still trailed FGCU, 3-2, with two matches still in action.

Maria Tonani outlasted Gyanna Mandic, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 at singles No. 6 to knot the match at 3-3.

Isabel von Stryk clinched the match for the Spartans with a 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 victory at singles No. 1.

The Spartans will return to action tomorrow at 2 p.m. when they face the Stetson Hatters.
