Women’s Tennis Looks to Clinch A-Sun Tournament Berth this Weekend

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's team closes out the 2012 regular season with a conference match Saturday at ETSU.

The Bucs have already clinched a berth in the A-Sun Championship (Apr. 20-22), but the Spartans, currently sitting in sixth place, look to secure a berth in the six team event with a road victory at ETSU.

Spartan Volleys…

Maria Tonani has won six straight singles matches.

• Upstate earned a weekend split as the team defeated Mercer (7-0) and fell to Kennesaw State (6-1).

• The Spartans won both matches in Nashville (at Belmont, W, 7-0, Mar. 30; at Lipscomb, W, 6-1, Mar. 31)

• Upstate picked up its first league win of the year with a 4-3 win over FGCU (Mar. 23).

• Upstate snapped a six-match losing streak with a 4-3 win at Nicholls State (Mar. 6)

Julie Bell earned A-Sun Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors (Feb. 1) after picking up wins at both singles No. 2 and doubles No. 2 vs. Presbyterian College (Jan. 28).

Isabel von Stryk, Talia Rojas and Maria Tonani also picked up singles wins as the Spartans claimed four of six singles matches against the Blue Hose.

• Upstate claimed wins at doubles No. 1 (Talia Rojas/Isabel von Stryk) and No. 2 (Julie Bell/Ana-Sofia Camberos) to claim the doubles point vs. PC.
