MACON, Ga. – For the second time in as many weeks the USC Upstate women's tennis team is home to the A-Sun Player of the Week, as Isabel von Stryk was honored from the league office Wednesday afternoon.
The Spartans have now captured two of the four weekly honors from the conference office this season after Constanze Kuerten picked up the award on Feb. 13 and now von Stryk is honored after putting together a perfect 4-0 record last week.
The sophomore teamed up with Talia Rojas for a pair of doubles victories, winning 8-1 at the No. 3 spot at Davidson and coming back at No. 2 doubles for an 8-5 victory over Elon.
The Holm, Germany native pulled out all the stops in her first singles match of the week, dropping the opening set 3-6 at the No. 3 slot to Davidson's Stephani Synn, but von Stryk proved resilient over the next two sets, rallying 6-2, 6-1 to capture the match and send Upstate to a 4-3 victory over the Wildcats.
She then moved into the top spot against Elon and continued her winning ways, cruising past Jordan Johnston 6-1, 6-3 to cap a perfect 4-0 week.
The Spartans and von Stryk are back in action again this weekend, welcoming Coastal Carolina and Converse to town for a Saturday doubleheader at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex. First serve against the Chanticleers is set for 10 a.m., followed by a 2 p.m. start with the Valkyries.
