LakePoint, Ga. - The USC Upstate women's tennis team has been picked to finish seventh in the ASUN Preseason Women's Tennis Poll of the league's coaches, conference officials announced this afternoon.
Upstate was picked to finish in seventh place with eight points. In 2017, Carol Sigaki was named to the ASUN All-Academic Team and claimed Second Team All-Conference honors. She went 8-12 overall in singles play and recorded a 7-4 record at the number two position. In doubles action, Sigaki went 8-11 while teaming up with Vale Zarama and Filippa Ericson. As a team, Upstate posted a 3-18 overall mark and 1-5 record in league play.
North Florida and FGCU each finished with 44 points, but the Ospreys earned four first place votes to claim the top spot. Stetson tallied 32 points to finish in third place followed by Lipscomb in fourth with 29 points. NJIT was selected to finish in fifth with 25 points followed by Kennesaw State in sixth with 14 points.
Upstate opens the 2018 season next Saturday at Wofford. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The Spartans open the home portion of their schedule on Friday, Feb. 2 against Presbyterian College.
