Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team will play its final two matches of the season this week as the Spartans travel to Lipscomb at 3 p.m. Eastern on Thursday before hosting Kennesaw State at 2 p.m. Saturday. Carol Sigaki will be honored as part of Senior Day festivities on Saturday.
USC Upstate is 1-17 overall and 0-4 in the ASUN after a 7-0 loss at Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday. The Spartans are led in singles play by Sigaki, who has five wins on the season. Sigaki and Vale Zarama have teamed up to win five doubles matches.
Lipscomb is 8-11 overall and 2-2 in the ASUN after the Bisons earned a 4-3 win at Stetson on Saturday. In addition to its win over Stetson, the Bisons defeated Kennesaw State in ASUN play with losses against Florida Gulf Coast and North Florida. Kateryna Popova is the reigning ASUN Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
Kennesaw State is 1-14 overall and 0-4 in the ASUN entering a home match against NJIT on Thursday. The lone win for the Owls came against Western Carolina in a 4-3 triumph on Feb. 9. Jessica Cantrell and Alexandra Mercado each have five singles wins for the Owls.
Thursday's match is the 11th all-time meeting between the Bisons and Spartans with the series tied at 5-5. Kennesaw State leads the all-time series with USC Upstate 7-3.
