Upstate Announces 2012 Volleyball Schedule
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate volleyball team and head coach Jennifer Calloway released the 2012 volleyball schedule today with 18 Atlantic Sun Conference matches on the docket, including nine home league contests.
The Spartans open the season with two road tournaments, traveling to Chattanooga Aug. 24-25 and Charleston Southern Aug. 31-Sept. 1. Upstate opens home play at the G.B. Hodge Center, hosting UNC Asheville Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. The Spartans head to Loyola-Chicago for their third tournament of the season, where they will face Big East opponent DePaul.
Upstate opens A-Sun play, traveling to Kennesaw State Sept. 18 and to ETSU Sept. 22. On Sept. 25, the squad takes the 45-minute trek to non-conference foe Gardner-Webb. The team wraps up an eight-match road swing in the Sunshine State, facing conference opponents Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast Sept. 28 and Sept. 29, respectively.
The Spartans return to the Hodge Center for a six-match homestand, beginning with a nonconference contest against Savannah State Oct. 2. Upstate then hosts five-straight league matches, taking on Lipscomb (Oct. 5), Northern Kentucky (Oct. 6), Kennesaw State (Oct. 9), North Florida (Oct. 12) and Jacksonville (Oct. 13).
The squad heads to Macon, Ga., Oct. 16 to square off with A-Sun opponent Mercer, before welcoming the Buccaneers of ETSU to Spartanburg Oct. 19. The Spartans close out the month of October, traveling to Highland Heights, Ky., and to Music City. Upstate battles the Norse of Northern Kentucky Oct. 26 and the LU Bison Oct. 27.
The Spartans open November with three-straight home conference contests. The team hosts the Hatters Nov. 2, the Eagles Nov. 3 and the Bears Nov. 6.
Upstate wraps-up the regular season on the road with match at Savannah State Nov. 8, before heading to Jacksonville, Fla., to finish-up A-Sun play. The squad faces the Dolphins Nov. 9 and the Osprey Nov. 10.
The 2012 A-Sun Volleyball Championship will be Nov. 15-17 at Lipscomb's Allen Arena in Nashville, Tenn.
