Haake, Swanson Receive ASUN Postseason Recognition

Nashville, Tenn. – USC Upstate sophomore setter/right side Madison Haake and freshman outside hitter Montana Swanson were recognized by the ASUN Conference Wednesday evening as the league announced its postseason awards during a ceremony held at Allen Arena on the campus of Lipscomb University.

Haake was named Second Team All-Conference and also earned a spot on the All-Academic Team, while Swanson garnered a unanimous selection to the All-Freshman Team. Haake is the third Spartan in program history to be voted to the All-Conference and All-Academic Teams, and Swanson is the sixth player placed on the All-Freshman Team.

Haake played in every match and set this season for Upstate. She led the team in assists, was second in digs and service aces, third in blocks and sixth in kills. The sophomore ranks first in the ASUN with 22 double-doubles, and was ninth or better in assists, assists per set, digs and digs per set. Entering the week, Haake sits 13th nationally in triple-doubles with two. She compiled 24 matches with double-digit digs and added 20 or more assists 27 times this season, as well as recording double-figure kills in two matches. She set new career-highs for assists, digs and blocks in a match. Haake was also named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 3. Academically, Haake holds a 3.80 grade-point average and is majoring in computer information systems.

Swanson appeared in 29 matches this season with 28 starts, and appeared in 118 sets. She ranked third on the team in kills and digs, and was fifth in service aces. The freshman was second on the team this season with 11 double-doubles, and sat eighth in the ASUN in digs, 11th in digs per set and 16th in kills. Swanson registered double-digits digs 18 times and had 10 or more kills in 13 matches. She earned ASUN Freshman of the Week accolades on Sept. 19.

Upstate is the fifth-seed for the ASUN Volleyball Championship and opens play Thursday evening at 6 p.m. EST against No. 4 seed North Florida.
