ANN ARBOR, Mich. – After knocking down the first shot of the game, the Spartans were outscored 27-5 by Michigan over an 11 minute stretch as the Wolverines claimed a 66-35 victory on Saturday night inside Crisler Arena.

USC Upstate (0-1) sophomore Tony Dukes (Ellenwood, Ga./Atlanta Metropolitan) canned a three-pointer from the left wing to give Upstate a 3-0 lead less than 20 seconds into the game.  After Dukes basket, Michigan (1-0) came down the court and tied the game on Tim Hardaway, Jr.'s first shot of the game.

After Michigan extended the lead to 27-7, the Spartans were able to battle back and cut the deficit to 14 on Marquis Sloan's (Greenville, S.C./Greenville HS) three-pointer with 4:13 remaining in the first half.  However, the Wolverines scored five of the final six points of the first half as they owned a 36-18 lead at intermission.

The Wolverines continued to keep the lead at 14-20 points for the first 10 minutes of the first half before putting the game out of reach with a 16-4 run over a 6:53 stretch from the 10:26 mark to the 3:33 mark. 

Chalmers Rogers (Fort Mill, S.C./Fort Mill HS) paced the Spartans as he grabbed a career-best nine rebounds and added seven points.  Ricardo Glenn (Augusta, Ga./Richmond Academy) had four points and five rebounds, Carter Cook (Clemmons, N.C./Calvary Baptist Day School) scored six, while newcomers Marquis Sloan and Tony Dukes scored five.

Michigan was lead by Tim Hardaway, Jr. and Darius Morris, who had 19 points and 17 points, respectively.

Michigan shot 44 percent from the floor and 31.8 percent from beyond the three point line, while Upstate shot 22.2 percent from the field and just 16.7 percent on three-point attempts.  Michigan also out-rebounded the Spartans by 13 (45-32).

Upstate will return to action on Monday night as it wraps up a two-game road swing at Virginia.  Tip-off between the Spartans and the Cavaliers is slated for 7:00 p.m.
