BOONE, N.C. – USC Upstate sophomore and
Colorado native, Mindy
Quimby earned a slot on the Appalachian Invitational
All-Tournament team following her standout performance this past
weekend on the campus of Appalachian State.
The 5-10 sophomore outside hitter, originally from Keenesburg,
Colo., finished out the tournament with an impressive 33 kills in
11 sets over 101 total attacks (.198). Quimby also recorded a pair
of assists and a service ace over the course of the tournament.
Defensively, the sophomore found 15 digs over the weekend (1.36)
and a pair of block assists.
In 2009 Quimby was one of five Atlantic Sun Conference freshmen
athletes to play more than 100 sets on the season. She finished
fourth amongst all A-Sun freshmen in kills with 139 and sixth kills
per set (1.35). She was also fourth in digs, scooping up 200 on the
year.
Last season, in A-Sun play, Quimby moved from her right
side/defensive specialist position and into an all-around player.
The results moved her into third in conference play amongst
freshmen in kills (114) and kills per set (1.65), fourth in digs
(138) and sixth in digs per set (2.00) and blocks (13). She also
posted two double-doubles, notching 10 kills and 13 digs at
Campbell before leading Upstate to a five-set come-from-behind
victory over North Florida by notching 18 kills and 13 digs. She
also added seven matches with 10 or more digs.
Upstate will resume competition next weekend, September 10-11 at
the Myrtle Beach Comfort Inn Suites Invitational in Conway, S.C. At
the Invitational, the Spartans will face Norfolk State (3-4), also
the Spartans, on Friday at 4:00 p.m. before taking on The Citadel
(0-7) and host Coastal Carolina (1-5) on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and
6:00 p.m., respectively.
