Upstate Volleyball Declaws Wildcats, 3-0

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The USC Upstate volleyball team (7-13) finished its Sunshine State stint today sweeping non-conference opponent Bethune-Cookman (9-13) by scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-15.

The Spartans were led by senior Morgan Thomas with 13 kills, four blocks and two aces. Junior Emily Sanders dished out 26 six assists, while collecting eight digs. Her classmate Mindy Quimby registered eight kills and eight digs, while sophomore Morgan Page also scooped up eight digs on the day. Freshman Kayla McAvoy and junior Emily Bingham both added six kills for Upstate.

Bethune-Cookman was led by Krysta Gardner's double-double of 14 kills and 10 digs. Frances Rodriguez and Aubrianna Curtis handed out 15 and 12 assists, respectively for the Lady Wildcats, while Janeen Davis contributed nine kills.

The Spartans squared off with Bethune-Cookman for the first time in school history last season, defeating the Lady Wildcats 3-1 Sept. 30, 2010 in Spartanburg.
