Spartans Grounded at Air Force Tournament

USAF Academy, Colo. – The USC Upstate volleyball team (2-7) encountered a no fly zone at the Air Force Falcon Invitational today, dropping a 3-1 (25-19, 25-15, 19-25 and 25-14) decision to Air Force (3-6) and a 3-0 loss (25-17, 25-13 and 25-11) to Utah Valley (8-3).

Against Air Force, the Spartans were led offensively by junior Mindy Quimby and senior Kelsie Queen with 14 and 10 kills, respectively. Junior Emily Sanders recorded 34 assists and 10 digs, while Quimby also collected 10 digs. This marked the third double-double for both Sanders and Quimby. Sophomore Page Morgan registered a team-high 17 digs, while senior Morgan Thomas recorded four blocks and eight kills.

The Falcons had a trio of players post double-digit kills as Ayesha Hein led the charge with 19. Cami Richan added 16 kills, while Claire Bieber had 12. Hillary Keltner dished out 31 assists, while Josalynn Wise had 14.  Maiya Perich led Air Force with 16 digs.

Thomas posted a team-high eight kills against Utah Valley, while Queen had five. Sophomore Amanda Carroll handed out 13 assists to go along with three digs. Sanders collected 13 digs, while Page added six.

The Wolverines were led by Sarah Clement with eight kills and Brookelyn Campbell with 29 assists. Patti Flagg and McKennaTait each recorded 10 digs for Utah Valley.
