JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – With a hand in his face, Ty Greene (Knoxville, Tenn.) canned a three-pointer with 3.8 seconds remaining in regulation and ultimately sent the contest into overtime.  However, the homestanding Jacksonville Dolphins (3-15, 1-6 Atlantic Sun) outscored USC Upstate (10-9, 4-3), 10-7, in overtime to claim the three-point win Monday night inside Swisher Gymnasium.

"It was a big win for a team that came in struggling, they really played hard and out-manned us tonight," said head coach Eddie Payne.  "We didn't rebound the ball well on the defensive end, had we done a slightly better job we might have won the game tonight."

Upstate jumped out to an early 4-0 lead just 1:26 into the contest as Greene and Ricardo Glenn (Augusta, Ga.) scored a pair of baskets in the paint.

JU's Glenn Powell got the Dolphins on the board with a fast break lay-up at the 17:29 mark of the first half.  Powell's basket sparked a 9-2 run over a span of just 1:23 as the Dolphins took a 9-6 lead with 16:07 to play in the half.

The Dolphins increased their lead to nine (17-8) after Glenn Powell connected on a lay-up in the paint with 13:03 left in the period.  Powell gave JU its largest lead of the half, 10 (21-11), after a fast break dunk.

With JU leading 27-17 with just under six minutes to play in the half, the Spartans cut into the deficit with a 7-0 spurt over a span of 2:19.  Glenn connected on a lay-up, Torrey Craig (Great Falls, S.C.) hit a three-pointer and Jodd Maxey's (Statham, Ga.) fast break dunk trimmed the Dolphin lead to three, 27-24, with 3:24 to play in the half.

JU pushed back in front by eight, 32-24, with 1:44 to play in the half thanks to a quick 5-0 run.

Upstate trimmed the deficit to four at intermission thanks to a lay-up by Glenn and Craig's jumper as time expired.

Upstate took a 34-33 lead at the 17:14 mark of the second half when Greene sank his jumper from just outside the paint.

The two teams continued the back and forth affair until Upstate took its largest lead of the contest, six (61-55) when Greene converted a three-point play with 5:19 to play.

Upstate lead by six with 4:22 to play before JU made a run to tie the game at 63 with 1:51 remaining.

JU held a 67-64 lead after Tevin Galvin hit two free throws with 18 seconds to play.  With the Spartans needed a three, Greene connected on a triple from the right wing to tie the game at 67 with 3.8 to play.

JU opened the extra session on a 5-0 run, taking a 72-67 lead with 3:13 to play.  Upstate closed the gap to one (73-72) when Craig hit a pair of free throws with 1:08 showing on the clock.

The Spartans again got within one (75-74) when Mario Blessing (Kusterdingen, Germany) hit a runner with 25 seconds to play.

Trailing 77-74, Greene had another look to tie the contest and force a second overtime, but the freshman's triple bounced off of the rim and JU escaped with their third win and first conference win of the season.

Greene lead the Spartans with a game-high 20 points, while Craig tallied a double-double (17 points, 10 rebounds).  Maxey posted a career-best 15 points, while Glenn added 14.

Upstate will return home to begin a three-game homestand beginning with A-Sun leader Belmont Saturday at 2 p.m.
