SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After a strong second half performance against Belmont Saturday, USC Upstate sophomore forward Torrey Craig (Great Falls, S.C.) has been named the College Sports Madness Atlantic Sun Player of the Week.
Against Belmont, Craig scored 17 points in the second half including the game-winner with just 0.7 seconds to play. Craig's put-back in the final seconds gave the Spartans a 79-78 victory over the Bruins; it was Upstate's first-ever victory over Belmont.
Craig was 6-for-8 from the floor in the second half including a 3-for-4 effort from beyond the arc. He also sank two of three free throw attempts in the final stanza. For the game, Craig totaled 22 points as he finished 7-of-11 from the floor, 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and 4-for-5 at the charity stripe.
At Jacksonville (1/16/12), Craig recorded his fifth double-double of the season with a 17-point, 10 rebound performance in the 77-74 overtime loss to the Dolphins. Craig also tallied two blocks, one assist and one steal against Jacksonville.
The Spartans (11-9, 5-3 A-Sun) return to action tonight at 7 p.m. when they host Lipscomb (10-10, 5-3) inside the Hodge Center.
